One of America's most iconic monuments, Mount Rushmore National Memorial contains a towering granite cliff whereupon the faces of four of the country's foremost former presidents have been carved. These 60-foot-high faces include those of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, the 1st, 3rd, 36th and 16th presidents, respectively. Take the short walk to near the base of the monument and see these gigantic faces as they gaze out into the distance from up on high. Positioned about a 30-minute drive south of Rapid City, the park is about half an hour north of Wind Cave National Park and even closer to Custer State Park, making a day trip to some or all of these parks an easy choice for a day's worth of sights and entertainment.
